Wilshire Corridor - Westwood CaliforniaWestwood began as a ranch where the Mormon Temple now stands on Santa Monica Boulevards. A developer brother team bought the ranch from the owner of the Broadway and Bullock's department stores and started dividing the parcels. The original ranch parcel started from Pico and Sawtelle Boulevards north to what is known as the heart of Westwood. The area was so far away from everything, the developers were concerned about getting people out to this distant area, so the sales office was first located at Beverly Glen and Santa Monica Boulevards. They had metro offices closer to downtown and Hollywood where more people lived at the time.

The first home was built on Midvale south of Santa Monica Boulevard. The area between Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards were developed between 1924 and 1925. North of Wilshire was developed in 1926 and sold quickly. Twenty five to thirty builders were constructing homes at one time and the developers limited two lots per builder to avoid " designs tract home". Nowadays the description of Westwood in defining a neighborhood
has been "stretched" by some people to include Westwood Blvd down to Pico and east to Patricia Ave. However, that geographic area is also known as Rancho Park, a very desirable neighborhood area that includes Rancho Park Public Golf Course .

Westwood Village sprang up quickly once homes started being built, Desmond's and Bullocks department stores the first business in the area. UCLA campus has long been the heart of Westwood. Throughout the years Westwood Village has been home to movie theaters, where many Hollywood movie premiers are always taking place, trendy restaurants, shops, boutiques.

Westwood is bordered to the west by the 405 , the affluent neighborhood is on the north, to the east is Holmby Hills, southeast is Century City and south is Rancho Park.

Westwood housing consists still of some of the lovely original Spanish style homes from the 1920's to high rise full service condominiums on Wilshire Blvd known as the Wilshire Corridor, condominiums, handful of apartment buildings to more traditional style post WWII Built homes. Westwood is known for its quality schools beginning with the elementary schools; Warner Elementary, Westwood Charter all the way through world famous UCLA.

Just west of UCLA and the 405 Freeway is Veteran's Hospital and veterans center. This a large parcel of prime real estate that the Veteran's administration owns. There is also the Wadsworth theatre that hosts many wonderful plays. The Westwood Farmer's Market is hidden away in a lovely setting at the Vet's Garden. Thursdays from 1:00 pm. - 7:00 pm.
